Presidents Trophy Air Race

Join The Sling Team At PTAR 2016

A couple of us have decided to race again this year and have revived “The Sling Racing Team”.

This year the race is out of Bethlehem Airfield from the 26th to the 28th of May. It is a really fun event that is open to pilots and navigators of any calibre or experience level. For all of  those new to air racing, the PTAR runs annually at the end of May each year. It is a handicap race and open to all Class C1 aircraft with reciprocating engines. Handicaps are developed to attempt to give each aircraft a chance of winning. The handicap system also allows aircrafts of different types to compete against each other. This event is probably the South African aviation event with the largest number of competitors. It has been attracting approximately 100 crews over the past few years. The Race is a two day event. Each day the competitors will fly a course of approximately 320 nautical miles. Entrants need to have a minimum cruise speed of 100 knots and be able to cover the distance with proper legal reserves remaining. Most importantly it is really good fun and a brilliant way to improve you piloting and navigation skills. Taking part in events like these really do make you a better and safer pilot.

We are proud to announce that a Sling 2 took the 2015 Cup last year with Grant Raubenheimer & Vincent Anderes being the joint pilots!! And I have no doubt the Sling Racing Team will be taking most of the Trophy’s home in 2016 so remember to bring your dinner jacket!!Please do let me know if you are keen to join us so we can start making arrangements for accommodation and car rental etc.
